New Year’s Greetings 2026
We, Tokyo International Law Office and TKI (Singapore) LLP (collectively, “TKI”) would like to express our sincere gratitude for your ongoing support in the past year.
■ Establishment of the Singapore Office — Two-Office Structure in Tokyo and Singapore
Since our inception in April 2019, TKI has built an international team of attorneys capable of rendering advice for key global jurisdictions, with Tokyo as our base, as we pursue our vision of becoming a “global firm originating from Japan”.
In January 2025, we established TKI (Singapore) LLP as a Foreign Law Practice in Singapore, opening our first overseas office in Singapore. This two-office structure in Tokyo and Singapore represents a significant step forward for our vision of becoming a truly global firm originating from Japan.
We have since our inception served clients across Japan, Europe, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region from our Tokyo office. With our new presence in Singapore—a hub for regional headquarters of multinational corporations, international trade and dispute resolution —we will further strengthen our practice with seamless coordination between our Tokyo and Singapore offices in key practice areas, such as cross-border M&A and dispute resolution (including international arbitration), energy and infrastructure projects, and compliance and internal investigations. We are now strategically positioned to meet the growing inbound legal needs related to Japan that arise from the Asia-Pacific regional headquarters of global corporations in Singapore.
■ Strengthening Our Corporate/M&A, Dispute Resolution, and Energy & Infrastructure Practices
In the upcoming year, we expect to see increased shareholder activism and unsolicited takeovers, as well as continued demand for portfolio realignment, overseas M&A for global expansion, requiring our clients to streamline their dispute management, governance, and compliance frameworks. In addition, legal issues associated with energy and data center infrastructure projects driven by rising demand for energy, AI and digital platform regulations, data security and risk management are becoming increasingly complex against the backdrop of increasing global geopolitical risks.
To meet these challenges, we will further strengthen our core practices—corporate/M&A, dispute resolution, and energy and infrastructure—while expanding our Asia-Pacific practice centered in Singapore and our capabilities in international arbitration, healthcare and life sciences, antitrust and tax.
We will also continue supporting our clients’ legal departments facing staffing shortages through our remote in-house services, helping to enhance their legal functions and provide expertise.
■ International Team Covering Japan, the U.S. & Europe, India, China & Asia
In the six years since our inception, our attorney team has grown from five to approximately forty lawyers, including foreign-qualified attorneys. With practitioners qualified in major jurisdictions including Japan, the United States, England and Wales, France, India and China, we have developed a robust international practice with strong and diverse legal capabilities.
With our two offices strategically located in Tokyo and Singapore, we are able to further expand access to top global talent and strengthen our cross-border practice with integrated operation of our two offices.
■ Appointment of New Partners as of January 2026
As of January 2026, we appointed Haruka Matsumoto (Dispute Resolution (Litigation & Arbitration), Corporate Crisis Management, Labor Disputes, Bankruptcy and Restructuring, etc.) and Naoko Ishihara (Intellectual Property Transaction, Dispute Resolution, Corporate and In-House Legal Support (including Internal Investigation), etc.) as new partners of our firm.
Together with our new partners—who bring deep expertise, strong capabilities and outstanding character—our firm will continue striving to provide superior client service as a trusted partner to all our clients.
We remain committed to deepening our client relationship of trust, providing strategic solutions to the challenges our clients face, and contributing to the long-term success of their businesses.
■ New Book Publications
Last year, we published three new books in Japanese that highlight our expertise in listed company M&A and tender offers, corporate dispute resolution and international contract drafting. We will continue to deliver and share expertise and practical insights that are beneficial to our clients:
・Practical Aspects of Tender Offers by Situation – Second Edition (Chuokeizai-sha)
・A Practical Guide to Corporate Disputes: From Risk Prevention to Crisis Response and Remedial Measures (Chuokeizai-sha)
・Basics of Practical English-Language Contracts(e-book, BUSINESS LAWYERS LIBRARY)
We wish you all a happy and prosperous new year, and look forward to continuing to support your business success in the new year.
