Interim Measures Under Japan’s Amended Arbitration Act and
JCAA Rules — with Lessons from Singapore and Hong Kong

We are pleased to announce that Koki Yamada, Earl Rivera-Dolera and Haruka Matsumoto will be speaking at the arbitration seminar hosted by the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA), titled: “New Tools, Sharper Teeth: Interim Measures Under Japan’s Amended Arbitration Act and JCAA Rules — with Lessons from Singapore and Hong Kong.”

As Japan moves forward with modernizing its arbitration framework, recent amendments to the Arbitration Act have brought significant changes to the legal and procedural foundations for interim measures in international arbitration. These changes now allow for the application of interim relief measures with the powerful backing of court enforcement, further enhancing the effectiveness and international competitiveness of JCAA arbitration.

In this seminar, Attorney Earl (Registered Foreign Lawyer), who has served as both arbitrator and counsel in proceedings before JCAA, ICC, SIAC, and other international institutions, will share best practices on interim measures based on practical experience in Singapore and Hong Kong. Attorneys Yamada and Matsumoto will also provide insights into the amended Arbitration Act and recent developments in Japanese court practices.

For Japanese companies operating internationally, understanding interim measures at the outset of a dispute and during the selection of the seat of arbitration is crucial for risk management and effective dispute resolution.
