The automotive industry, including OEM automotive manufacturers, automotive parts suppliers, and transportation and material handling equipment providers are experiencing game-changing competitive pressures on account of emission reduction and technological advancements. The rise of electric vehicles (EV) and autonomous driving technology have accelerated the transition towards a “mobility society.” This, combined with a growing number of new entrants from other industries and the formation of business alliances and joint ventures, has significantly transformed the automotive industry. Advances in software, auto financing and payment systems, the collection, management, and analysis of big data (which the automotive industry traditionally has not utilized) has also given rise to a need to address novel legal issues.
